MCP connector
Let the AI you already useread your AiiB library.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is a common way for AI apps to use outside tools. While AiiB is open, AI apps on the same computer (Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, local LLMs and more) can read your AiiB deck list, deck structure and slide images.
How it works
Your AI app asks AiiB, on your own computer
When AiiB is open, a connector starts that listens only on your computer. Your AI app asks it for the deck list and structure. AiiB only reads your data; it never changes it through the connector.
Availability
Which versions support it
- Mac App Store and Microsoft Store versions
- Available now (read-only) while AiiB is open, at http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp
- Next update (1.2)
- Token authentication and writing tools (create and edit slides as proposals that land only after you accept)
- For companies (deployed in your cloud)
- Connection from Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot with your company Microsoft account, in preparation
Connect
Connect (every AI app registers the same URL)
Open AiiB first. The URL to register is:
http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp- 1Claude Code
Run this in your terminal.
claude mcp add --transport http aiib http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp - 2Claude Desktop
Add this to the file opened from Settings › Developer › Edit Config (claude_desktop_config.json), then restart Claude. Requires Node.js.
{ "mcpServers": { "aiib": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp"] } } } - 3Cursor
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json for one project).
{ "mcpServers": { "aiib": { "url": "http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp" } } } - 4VS Code (GitHub Copilot agent)
Add to .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace and use Copilot Chat in agent mode.
{ "servers": { "aiib": { "type": "http", "url": "http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp" } } } - 5Local LLM apps (llama.cpp Web UI, LM Studio and others)
Paste the URL into the MCP server setting.
Tools
Tools your AI can use (read-only)
- list_decks
- List decks, newest first (title, public code, slide count, updated date)
- get_deck_outline
- Return one deck’s structure: which template and heading on which slide
- render_slide_image
- Render one slide as an image and return its URL (drawn by the open AiiB window)
- list_material_files
- List files in the materials folder (also returns the folder location)
- read_material_file
- Read a text file directly in the materials folder (.txt .md .csv .tsv .json .log, up to 512 KB)
- describe_workspace
- Report this computer’s state (deck count, materials folder and database locations)
How to use
Example requests
Once connected, just ask your AI app in plain words. It picks the tools itself.
- List
“Show me the five newest decks in AiiB.”
- Review structure
“Look at the newest deck’s structure and point out gaps in the storyline.”
- See a slide
“Show me slide 3 of that deck as an image.”
- Match materials
“Read the meeting notes in the materials folder and suggest which deck and slide they belong to.”
- Edit in AiiB
Edits happen from the “AI” panel in AiiB’s editor (your API key). Writing through the connector comes in the next update, as proposals.
Safety
How the connector is protected
- Your computer only
It listens only on 127.0.0.1. Other computers cannot reach it.
- Websites are refused
If another website open in your browser tries to talk to it, the origin is checked and the request is refused.
- Read-only
The database is opened read-only. There are no tools that write, delete or export.
- Redactions are masked
Redacted words in titles and headings are replaced with masks before anything is returned.
- Nothing outside the materials folder
Only text files directly in the materials folder can be read. Anything outside it, other file types, or files over 512 KB are refused.
- Mind where your AI app sends things
The AI app you connect sends what it receives to its own AI (for cloud AI, to that provider). Decide whether that content may be sent before you ask.
Troubleshooting
If it won’t connect
- Is AiiB open?
The connector runs only while AiiB is open. Otherwise you get “cannot connect”.
- URL and port
The store versions use http://127.0.0.1:8094/mcp. Check it is http (not https) and ends with /mcp.
- “This conversation no longer exists”
Appears after reopening AiiB. Reconnect (reload) the connector in your AI app.
- No image
render_slide_image is drawn by the open AiiB window. Keep AiiB’s window open.
- Where is the materials folder?
Ask “Where is AiiB’s materials folder?” and describe_workspace returns the location.
What’s next
What’s next
- Token authentication (1.2)
A key on the connector so only the AI apps you register can use it.
- Writing tools (1.2)
Create and edit slides. Like AI editing inside AiiB: scope enforced, redactions never sent, and nothing lands until you accept the proposal.
- For companies
From Copilot Studio and Microsoft 365 Copilot (Teams), with your company account.
